CELEBRATING SEAFARERS

June 25th is a very special day, it is the day in which we celebrate in the name of seafarers and remember the sacrifices they make for us.

Today, as with every day of the year, thousands of seafarers are labouring, working hard to bring you, your family, your employer, your community and society, the things that it relies on. Whether food, oil, gas, raw materials or highly prized finished goods – seafarers are battling through nature and piracy to carry the goods which are the lifeblood of our society.

So take a few minutes today not just to think about seafarers, but to educate too. Remind your neighbours, family and friends of the of the importance of shipping and the vital role of the brave, hardy souls manning our global fleet. Tell them of this important day in which we say “thank you” to these very special people.

Seafarers make all our lives what they are today. So celebrate the good they bring, while remembering the sacrifices they make to carry that global burden.

Thank you to all seafarers, past, present and future. We vow to work hard to make your career better, we vow to do all we can to tackle piracy, to improve standards onboard and to make sure you will never be abandoned or placed in danger. In return all we ask is that you get home safe.

Happy Seafarers Day 2012 and thank you to all those who serve.
